This year’s 17th International Internet Governance Forum (IGF) was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, aiming to provide a premier platform to discuss pressing Internet governance issues. This year’s Internet Governance Forum (IGF) was special as it was hosted by our country for the first time. Guests from across the globe came together to discuss the most pressing topics that will shape the future of the Internet. By joining forces, we are better equipped to address the complex and ever-changing landscape of the Internet. Perspectives and experiences of African stakeholders are paramount in making sure that the IGF discussions are both relevant and effective. Our collective efforts will ensure the decisions we make will have lasting effects for months to come.
It was a momentous occasion when the Economic Commission for Africa opened its doors to host the international event of the year. The event started on November 28, 2022, with the presence of his Excellency Prime Minster Abiy Ahmed and Mayor of Addis Ababa Ms. Adanech Abebe with their opening remarks. Guests were enthralled by the thought-provoking topics addressed, and many were motivated to make meaningful changes. In addition to the important discussions, the event also featured interactive and fun side events that added joy and fun to the topics discussed. The event lasted till December 2, 2022, and all-in-all, it was an incredible experience for all in attendance that will have lasting effects.
